Our first few months as a holiday cottage and what our guests are saying

I think it’s fair to say that starting a holiday cottage business this year has been a bit of a challenge. The cottage was ready to go from mid-March but the Covid epidemic made that a nonstarter. However, since the lockdown was lifted on the 13th July we have had a tremendous run of guest staying at Silver Birch, far more than we could have possibly expected.

Being new to the holiday cottage business, we were a little apprehensive about what our first guests would think of the cottage, its location and how we had done the refurbishment. We contacted the guests the evening of their arrival and everyone’s comments were very complimentary. They would say, “it’s really lovely, you have thought of everything”, to be fair they seemed to be very impressed. At the end of their stay we contacted them again, their comments were that they loved the cottage and the town. They mentioned that the location was excellent for exploring the Cambrian Mountains, the Brecon Beacons, the Carmarthen Fans and the beaches of West Wales. They also mention many of the eateries and takeaways within Llandovery, morning walks to the cafés, evening meals in the pubs, and takeaway meals enjoyed on the patio in the early evening sunshine.

Here are some extracts from the visitors book.

Fiona, David & Harry.  July 2020

We have had the most wonderful stay here at Silver Birch Cottage, you really have thought of everything, from the moment we arrived all we had to do was unpack and relax. We wish you every success with Silver Birch Cottage and will definitely be back again.

Fabulous cottage, we really enjoyed our stay here, the beds were super comfy. The outside patio was very nice for sitting out eating and bird watching. La Patisserie and chip shop (Three Horseshoes) are well worth a visit, thoroughly recommend Silver Birch for a relaxing family get away.

Paul & Jenny.  July 2020

Thanks for a great stay at Silver Birch Cottage, you really have thought of everything. We enjoyed La Patisserie and the village hall in Myddfai for tea & cake or bacon butties. A trip to Llyn Brianne reservoir stopping at Carreg Clachdy car park gave great views. Enjoyed our stay and had a lovely break.

Craig, Marian & Grace.  August 2020

We had a fantastic stay in your cottage. During these tough times we travelled over from Buckinghamshire for a change of scenery and your cottage was just perfect in every way. Totally exceeded our expectations, I have stayed in hotels all over the world and have not had towels as soft and a bed so comfortable, all the little extras were just luxurious. Our highlights were the Welsh Botanic Gardens, Llanerchaeron National Trust and experiencing the beach vibe at New Quay. We loved La Patisserie for fresh coffee, bread and cake, the little organic grocer (Iechyd Da) on the high street was a great find. We also tried the Indian Lounge at the end of the road, and it was pretty good. Thanks again for helping us find a home from home in Wales, we truly hope to come again soon.

Angharad, Ian & Crew. August 2020

Thank you so much for an amazing stay from start to finish. From the prompt reply to my phone call to the amazing box of goodies on arrival, it has been exemplary. We know Llandovery well, I am born and raised in these parts, but this house is a true gem to stay in. The boys loved sitting in the garden for their meals as it happened we had great weather. We look forward to staying again when next in these parts, and have already recommended to various friends who will likely be visiting the area. Thank you again

Steve, Lucy, Calum & Izzy. August 2020

We were so impressed with our first visit pre Covid lockdown, we just had to come and stay again. Once again the cottage felt so welcoming, there have been a few additions since we first visited, with the drive and gates revamped and the patio area completely renewed. The beds are the most comfortable we have slept in in a long time and everything has a feel of luxury. The quaint town is great for morning walks to the cafés for coffee and there is plenty of choice of takeaways and pubs for your evening treats. All in all, again a great stay in this lovely cottage.

Manji, Neelima, Tanay & Tanya.  August 2020

The cottage has been stunning in every sense, from the amenities to it’s location, providing access all across the Brecon Beacons. This cottage will stay in our sweet memories for a long long time.

Really beautiful cottage in a lovely location, we had a very relaxing and cozy time here. Having two en-suites was really good, which is not easy to find. Jimmy loved the cottage and the surroundings. Highly recommended, we will be back in the future.

Kim and the Gang. September 2020

Lovely cottage with everything cared for, had a lovely time exploring the area to come home and relax at the end of the day. Enjoyed home cooking and had a few takeaways, which were all good, also had a great meal in the Kings Head. Thank you

Mr Monks & Co.  September 2020

5-Star Plus, as previous guests have said this cottage is outstanding. Ian & Paula are to be congratulated on their offering, the amenities and little extras are all first class and very thoughtful. We enjoyed glorious weather as we explored this delightful part of Wales. A fabulous holiday in Llandovery and beyond. Thank you

Steve, Julie and Cali (the dog).  September 2020

Fantastic stay, the cottage is in a great location and has everything needed for a home from home holiday. The bed gave a better sleep than at home and we loved the shower. Looks like you have thought of everything in the kitchen, the patio seating is lovely when the sun shines and the lock up shed was great for my bike. Llandovery makes a great touring base and has plenty of eating outlets, the set menu at the Indian Lounge is exceptional value. There are great walks and plenty of cycling routes too, we visited the beaches at Aberporth and New Quay. All in all, a great holiday in one of the best cottages we have stayed in, still loads to explore and we now know where to stay!

To say we are very pleased with the comments we have received is a massive understatement but its not about us, its about our lovely guests and making sure they have the nicest experience possible, while staying at Silver Birch holiday cottage in this quaint market town.

Over the coming months we have plenty of availability, so why not treat yourself to a relaxing stay in Silver Birch Cottage and explore what this beautiful scenic part of Wales has to offer.
